An optional speed sensor is available for direct detection of motor speed with an option for rotation detection.

A magnetic speed ring is pressed onto the outer diameter of the motor cylinder and a Hirth induction speed sensor is mounted to the motor housing.

The sensor is externally powered and outputs a digital pulse signal based on the speed of the speed ring.

When the north/south pole of the permanent magnet speed ring passes over the surface of the speed sensor, the output voltage switches between high and low voltage, which is externally expressed as a digital pulse signal.

This digital frequency signal can be used in a microprocessor. This digital frequency signal can be used in microprocessor controlled systems.

The sensor is supplied from 4.5 to 15 volts DC. The current is 12 mA at 5 volts DC (minimum) for no load operation.

The current is 12 mA. The permissible current is 20 mA with a 5 Vdc supply.

The minimum value of the output pulse high (VOH) is the supply voltage minus 0.5 volts, and the maximum value of the output pulse low (VOL) is 0.5 volts.

The maximum value for VOL is 0.5 volts. An optional Packard Weather-PackTM standard 4-pin sealed connector is available for the sensor's electrical connector.
